Hiking trails list in Niagara NY

 Niagara Falls State Park's Discovery Center is home to the Niagara Gorge Trailhead Center and you can find many trails along the river that offers breathtaking views of the river upclose. The Niagara Gorge Trail System is made up of a series of smaller trails sections along the Niagara river. It is recommended to hike between the months of May and November for safety reasons. As always, good sturdy hiking boots are useful for hiking trips into the gorge. Visitors to Niagara Falls region can explore the wildlife and the geologic history of the great Niagara Falls up close by hiking up and down the trails. Explore these hiking trails in Niagara Falls on the American side that have varying distance and levels of difficulty.

Robert Moses Recreation Trail

This relatively easy trail has no age limit and has a distance of 3.5 miles one way. Walk, jog or biking is permitted on this trail.


Niagara Gorge Rim Trail

It is long with 6 miles one way, but the payoffs are huge for your effort as it offers many gorge vistas including the whirlpool and Devil's hole rapids.

American Falls Gorge Trail

This hiking trail in Niagara Falls has moderate difficulty level with a distance of 1.5 miles one way. It is presently closed to the public.

Great Gorge Railway Trail

No age limit relatively easy trail has just 1 mile one way with well developed trails where there used to be a railroad decades ago. Excellent gorge vistas with overlooks, whirlpool bridges and rapids offer plenty to explore.

Whirlpool Rapids Trail

It is difficult to hike this trail because of stairs, boulder hopping and some narrow sections that makes it really interesting and adventurous. It is  a short trail with a distance of just 1 mile one way.

Devil's Hole Trail

River's Edge Trail

Easy one to hike down with just 1 mile one way distance has sites like Queenston shale and on the river level.


Whirlpool State Park in Niagara Falls New York

There is no charge to enter this park and is located four miles North of Niagara Falls where you will find a great hiking trail north of the parking lot that takes you to the whirlpool and rapids. It just takes an hour to hike down this trail roundtrip. Whirlpool trail is one of the best hiking trails in Niagara Falls that offers breathtaking views of the Niagara river and great overlooks and is difficult with steep stairs as shown in the picture above.

Nice Hub, informative.

I just returned from a hike near Halong Bay in Vietnam. The sight of the bay from the mountains was awesome.

Excellent hub! All you ever hear about is the Falls but just like so many other places there are some great hikes that are in the area for those who want to explore.

If you hop over to the Canadian side you can find the start of the Bruce Trail - a nearly 900km long hike up to Tobermory - only takes 1-2 months! ;)

Nice Blog post! Niagara Falls Canada, has changed names many times. Seventh Wonder to Honeymoon Capital, this terrain features Marineland and the very famous Casino Niagara that covers 100,000 sq ft of gaming area. This is a place that constantly changes

Good, informative hub. Although I've written various hubs about places in this area of Upstate New York, it's good to read a hub with the perspective of seeing this part of the area on foot.
